Guts Sports Summary

Guts Poker is no longer accepting players from Germany

Guts Sports are one of the newest additions to the online bookmaker roster. Founded in 2013, and licensed out of Malta, their office consists of ‘highly qualified iGaming professionals’ with one goal; ‘to develop an online casino and sportsbook which is second to none when it comes to a high quality gaming experience’.

Breaking into the industry and wrestling market share from established firms is a tall ask, but Guts Sports aim to do just that through hassle free and fast pay-outs, proactive and intelligent customer support agents, and a wide range of payment and withdrawal methods.

Unfortunately, due to the new legislation, UK customers are currently only able to access the casino section of the website. In this review, we take a look at their offerings, assessing whether their service is competitive and innovative enough to take on the industry flag bearers.

Website

The website uses an image of inside a football stadium for the back drop. A grey, black and red theme is used for the bulk of the site which sits in the centre of the page. There is a search bar and the list of sports down the left hand side of the page. The centre plays host to popular events, and there are links to the casino and the betting slip on the right hand side of the page. Customers can flick between EU/UK/US odds above the bet slip.

Bettors can access a statistics section by clicking on the link in the menu bar at the top of the page. Powered by Betradar, users can access detailed information and data on a whole range of different sports.

The mobile app is automatically loaded when customers visit the site from a handheld device. A red, grey, teal and white them is used and all of the same features as the desktop website are accessible.

Languages

The website can be viewed in English, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish and German.

Markets

There are a total of 19 different sports and a specials section. As expected, football has by far the most games/leagues, with basketball second, ice hockey third, tennis fourth and handball, fifth.

On top of international fixtures and competitions, there are odds for football matches from 35 leagues around the world. As is standard, the English, German, Spanish and the Italian leagues have the most depth, but there is also plenty of coverage from the Norwegian and Swedish leagues (perhaps indicative of where Guts Sports are trying to gain customers). The English action goes as low as the Isthmian League, the German to the Oberliga Westfalen, the Italian to Serie D and Spanish to the Tercera Divisions.

Ten days out from the matches in the top leagues in Europe, there were typically 60-75 additional bet types for each game, including the Asian handicaps, total goals, half time/full time, and clean sheet etc. The number of extra bets falls in line with some of the better firms in the industry, especially so far out from the game.

There are odds for ice hockey games in 10 countries around the world. Most of the action is in Europe, with extra focus on Russia, Czech Republic and Sweden. For each game there are typically around 10 additional bets on top of the 1X2 offering, which while acceptable, is far from market leading.

Tennis coverage is fair. The matches are broken down into the country where they are played, and there are odds for matches from 11 different locations. These games tend to have a limited number of extra bets (usually 5 or so). Basketball betting is centred around the NBA and the Euro league, although there are odds from a further 11 countries, which is reasonable.

Odds

The competitiveness of odds is determined by total book percentage. This figure is calculated by converting all odds in an event into percentages, and adding them together. A book with no inbuilt profit margin for the bookmaker would equate to 100% and therefore the closer to that figure the better for punters.

The odds for English Premier League matches hover between 106-107% which isn’t wildly competitive. Bet365 and BetVictor offer very good books, usually around 102.5-103.5%, whilst Ladbrokes, SkyBet and Coral usually hover at around 105-106%. Guts Sport are more in line with firms like Betway with their percentages, and although it is difficult for a new firm to balance profit and growth, they need something to attract new custom, and their odds for football fail to do so.

Tennis odds are just okay, with matches in the ATP Miami tournament working to 107-107.5%. Ice hockey matches come out at around 107-107.5% in the NHL and the NBA basketball odds are a little more competitive on the Moneyline, producing total book percentages of around 105%.

Payment Methods

There are a variety of payment methods available. Those who use a Visa and MasterCard are subject to a 2.5% fee which is off-putting, but all of the other methods accepted are free. All payment methods have a minimum payment of €10, and customers can only withdraw funds to their account when they have a balance of €20 or bigger.

Customer Services

Customer services are both transparent and comprehensive. There is an email service (support@guts.com), live chat and also a call back service, where a member of staff will telephone the individual upon receiving a message with the customers query.

Promotions

Although there are a whole host of casino promotions available, there are currently none for sportsbook users. The promotions page tells customers to check back regularly, so it is likely that there will be some sort of concession in the future.

Review

Guts Sports may have intelligent customer services and fast pay-outs, but they also have plenty of room for improvement. While their number of sports is reasonable, their odds are far from market leading, and for a new firm, there needs to be a USP to attract customers away from their current bookmakers.

A lack of sign up promotions for sportsbook users appears poor marketing, and the fact that the company are also unable to accept UK clientele for sports betting purposes, is another negative. Completely condemning Guts Sports would be wrong as they are only just starting out and in their favour they appear transparent and well backed, so it could be worth opening an account and seeing how their service improves.
